Grant Writing
Grant writing in the highly competitive world of Academic Science with a little Economic Development thrown in for good measure makes a girl fearless. I wasn’t kidding about wanting to use my writing to benefit everyone. I’ve raised between $.5 million to $1.5 yearly, for more than a decade through public and private funding for an academic lab and been responsible for seeing projects from conception through to funding in the New Haven Economic Development Office. Let’s work together to build your dreams. More on my Grantsmithing can be found here. To learn more about hiring me as your freelance grant writer go to Charter Oak Grant Services.
My Why…
I make the complicated, simple,
so everyone can benefit.
UX Writing and Conversation Design Projects
All of these projects started as unpaid work. Some were class work. Some turned into something more. In all of them, I got to stretch my skills.
Case Study: Updating Wayfair.com Customer Email Messaging
This email goes out to most customers after their interaction with customer service. It invites them to take a survey about the customer service agent.
Case Study: Creating the BuildaBookBoyfriend Bot (BeBe)
Okay, this started just for fun! BeBe became kind of a passion project and a phenomenal learning tool for the world of bots.
UX Writer's Certification Final Project
We worked on the screen text and messaging for a fictional app called Handshake. The app would be used by freelancers and their clients.
Visual Design Certification Final Project
I took this class to learn more about the basics of visual design, I also learned a ton about design software and even GitHub. I would consider myself conversant but no expert.

Other Writing
Scientific Writing/Editing
While I’m not looking to get back into the lab, writing for peer reviewed journals and grant funding organizations honed my skills at working to a deadline, writing for clarity, and developing data driven techniques. I also had to learn to translate medical/science speak into something everyone else could understand.
I was not the investigator on these papers but as the lab manager I was responsible for writing the layman and non-scientific sections of the work as well as editing and proof-reading the entire paper for clarity.
Fiction
Best-selling romance novelist isn’t where a lot of grant writers start out, but in addition to learning to tell a good story, I learned to manage collaborations, read Google Analytics, work with graphics programs, and in general, run a small business. It also taught me to use various tools to check readability and comprehension levels. Lastly, I write in 3 very different genres with different voices and tone in each. Not bad for something that is a heck of a lot of fun!
My work is available where ever ebooks are sold and through libraries. For ease of use, I am linking to my Amazon author page.
