Grantsmithing

or as I think of it, Hero Support

Let my Experience work for you

A large part of my job in research was grant writing, and all the various things that go into asking, in my case the federal government, for money. Learning grant writing by submitting National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants is a little like learning to hike by climbing Everest.

In the grant writing world federal grants have the toughest rules, the harshest deadlines, and the lowest funding rates. In my world that was just Tuesday.  When I was submitting NIH grants the funding rate was somewhere near 5%. I also prepared and submitted Veteran’s Affairs (VA) research grants, which at a 20%, felt like easy money.

Through a combination of federal, corporate, and foundation grants I was instrumental in keeping a small academic research lab funded with an annual budget starting at half a million and growing to $1.5 million over 15 years.

My detail oriented track record extends beyond the scientific with experience working for the Economic Development Administration for the City of New Haven, CT. For them, I worked on RFP’s and developed programs in house that could utilize State funding opportunities.

What can I do, to help you do better?

    • Research funding opportunities
    • Develop boilerplate, or full proposals
    • Develop budgets
    • Project management to pull all the pieces together
    • Proofread or Edit your proposal before submission
    • Handle your reporting requirements

I would be happy to talk in more detail with you about the specifics of your needs.

Grants are the intersection of all of my writing skills. I love leveraging my ability to craft a story, with my ability to simplify complex answers from UX design, and my strong research skills.

Let’s do everything we can to make this world a better place.
